Black Snakes and Kangaroo formed as a group in the South Pacific in the 1950’s and their music was highly influential on “The British Invasion” that occured in the following decade. Such favorites as “Going to Haiti”, “Cop on a Phone”, “Black Snakes is Dead”, and “Interesting, smoke & smoke” have since become standards in the after-hours Karaoke bars of Trinidad. Tobago banned their music after it almost provoked a coup d’etat in ‘81.

Presented here are exclusive pictures from the Black Snakes and Kangaroo show in August of 2006. It was their first show in 40 years following a self-imposed exile to the Laplands from 1959-2002. Upon their emigration to the United States in 2003, they have made all efforts to adopt the culture of their new homeland. Members have gone on to become University students and NASA employees, though one member was deported for burning a piñata.
